At the upcoming virtual meeting of the G7 leaders on Friday, the United States intends to announce new sanctions against the Russian Federation due to the situation around Ukraine. According to Interfax, this was announced by the press secretary of the White House Karine Jean-Pierre.
She noted that “the leaders will discuss how we continue to support Ukraine and increase pressure” on Russia and all its supporters in matters of a special military operation.
“Among other things, the United States will impose sweeping sanctions against key sectors that generate income for Russia, take action against more Russian banks, the Russian defense and technology industries, and entities in third countries that are trying to repair the damage from our sanctions and circumvent them.” Jean-Pierre said.
Earlier, The Washington Post reported on the imposition of sanctions. She published an interview with US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, who warned that the new package of sanctions would also affect Chinese companies and organizations that do not comply with restrictions previously imposed by Washington.
“We will also impose other restrictions on organizations based in China or Chinese subsidiaries in Europe, which, in our opinion, actively evade the implementation of sanctions,” the American diplomat emphasized.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will call on the participants of the G7 meeting to intensify international efforts to provide assistance to Ukraine, The Guardian reported.
