There are several reasons that can trigger a migraine. Doctor of Medical Sciences, neurologist Natalya Shindryaeva told Gazeta.Ru about this.
She clarified that migraine is considered a headache of a throbbing nature, often with one-sided localization. Its other characteristic difference is its high intensity: the head during migraine can hurt so much that a person becomes unable to maintain his usual activity.
According to Shindryayeva, women are more prone to migraines – excruciating headache attacks are three times more common than men. This feature, the doctor explained, is determined by hormonal changes that occur during the menstrual cycle.
Natalya Shindryaeva also listed other migraine triggers. “Stress and sleep deprivation, weather changes, strong smells, missed meals, loud or unexpected noises, and bright or flashing lights,” she said.
The doctor added that people who periodically experience migraines are also prone to cardiovascular disease and seizures. The specialist advised them not to deal with the treatment of headaches on their own – it is better to consult a doctor.
