The International Skating Union (ISU) has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) the verdict of the RUSADA disciplinary anti-doping committee in the case of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, the ISU press service reports.
As stated in the statement, as part of the appeal, the ISU seeks disqualification of the athlete, effective December 25, 2021, for a period to be determined by CAS, and the annulment of all results achieved during this period.
The union also said that “all young athletes should be protected from doping”, but this cannot be achieved “by exempting young athletes from sanctions.”
Recall, on February 21, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announced that it had filed an appeal in the Valieva case to CAS and again demanded a four-year disqualification of the figure skater and the annulment of all her results since the test was taken at the end of December 2021.
In mid-January, the RUSADA committee reported that it did not find fault or negligence in Valieva’s actions, and only deprived the skater of victory at the Russian Championship, where she passed a positive doping test for trimetazidine.
