Support for Ukraine from humanitarian donors is at a high level, while other regions, including African countries, are experiencing a constant lack of funding, Robert Mardini, Director General of the International Committee of the Red Cross, told RIA Novosti.
According to him, for the vast majority of humanitarian organizations, starting with those working in Africa, donations are not enough – in particular, Afghanistan and Myanmar, as well as Latin American countries, are among the countries that feel a lack of funding. Mardini noted that humanitarian work in Ukraine is “very well supported by donors”, but “the downside is that the rest of the world is facing underfunding.”
At the same time, according to him, at the present time such a situation for the Red Cross “has become a reality.” “This is also the reality for the vast majority of humanitarian organizations, whether they are UN agencies and international NGOs, not to mention local non-governmental organizations,” the head of the Red Cross added.
