The seventh package of military assistance to Ukraine, which is being prepared by the Italian authorities, may include long-range missiles and drones, writes Corriere della Sera, citing a source in the Italian government.
As the newspaper notes, it will become clear what kind of equipment Rome will transfer to Kyiv “after a round of negotiations with Western partners.” Until now, NATO countries have not supplied certain types of weapons in order to prevent the escalation of the conflict. According to a source in the parliamentary committee on security, this condition “was never expressly stipulated”, but exists.
According to an interlocutor of the publication in the Italian Ministry of Defense, although the stocks in the arsenals are declining, and the reserve for the country’s defense cannot be touched, “there is still an opportunity to meet requests [Украины] into service.”
Last week, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference called for a doubling of military aid to Ukraine, saying that Kyiv needed more artillery, armored vehicles and air defense to win.
