People who have ever watched cats outside the house know that cats gnaw grass every now and then – for example, when they walk in the country. Experts say that cats have serious reasons for this, the Belnovosti portal writes.

According to veterinarians, the herb has a positive effect on the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract of the animal. This is most important for long-haired animals, but even if the cat does not have long and thick hair, when washing, the hairs still fall into the pet’s stomach. At the same time, the grass that has entered the esophagus and stomach of the cat plays the role of a “cleansing agent”: after that, the cat can burp the eaten hair and feel better.

In addition, the herb has a laxative effect: it improves bowel function and helps the cat to go to the toilet better. And if the cat, on the contrary, suffers from diarrhea, then, as a rule, she begins to eat narrow-leaved plants, which help her strengthen the intestines and get rid of discomfort.

Some experts also suggest that the grass can rid the cat’s body of toxins and toxins, so cats can eat grass for any ailment. However, this theory has not yet been confirmed.

Most often, domestic cats need grass in the spring, and if there is no natural treat anywhere, the cat will definitely replace it with something – for example, house plants that may not be very useful for her, or even poisonous. So by the beginning of spring, you should make sure that the cat has at least some grass in the public domain – bought at a pet store or planted by the owner himself.
