An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 was recorded on Monday in Antakya. This was reported by the Anadolu agency with reference to the Turkish Emergency Management.
According to him, the source lay at a depth of 16 km.
The Habertürk TV channel informed about the destroyed houses as a result of the disaster. In addition, tremors were also felt in some areas of Syria, the Syrian news agency SANA notes.
As noted in the Office of Emergency Situations, two strong earthquakes occurred in the south-east of the republic with a difference of 17 minutes. The first with a magnitude of 6.4 occurred in the Defne district of Hatay province, the second with a magnitude of 5.8 occurred in the Samandag district in the same province.
Tremors were also felt in Syria, Lebanon, Cyprus and Israel.
“The ground sank under our feet. We were in a tent city. We were incredibly shaken. People in many places stoked stoves. The children were very scared. It was an incredibly strong earthquake, not like an aftershock. It’s all up in smoke right now. Probably, those buildings that did not collapse collapsed,” CNN TÜRK reporter Buse Deviren said.
