The consumption of ammunition by Ukraine today is higher than the volume of their production in Western countries. This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in an interview with CNN.
“We have pointed this out and have been completely open on the matter. Ammunition consumption is higher than our production. So far, we have used the available reserves, but we also need to increase production,” he said.
Stoltenberg also urged not to underestimate Russia, pointing to its significant human resources. “Quantity is quality in itself. We must not underestimate Russia,” he added.
During the interview, Stoltenberg also confirmed that he intends to leave his post in the fall of 2023.
“I’m leaving this fall. I am sure that the alliance will find a worthy person to replace me,” he said.
Asked if he was willing to stay if asked by members of the alliance, Stoltenberg said he didn’t want to speculate about something that hasn’t happened yet. “I am focused on securing NATO assistance to Ukraine,” he said.
