Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said that the country will provide assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $5.5 billion, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the Japanese Foreign Ministry.

“On the afternoon of February 20, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi attended the 4th Tokyo Global Dialogue organized by the Japan Institute of International Affairs on the theme “The end of the post-Cold War era and the path of the US-led world order.” In his welcome speech, Prime Minister Kishida expressed the idea that Japan, as the G7 Chair and as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, will lead the solution of such problems that the world community is facing, such as helping Ukraine … working to maintain a world order based on the rule of law, which denies changing the status quo unilaterally by force, as a further reduction in nuclear weapons,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

“In this regard, Prime Minister Kishida expressed his intention to provide a new additional financial assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $5.5 billion,” the report says.
