President Guillermo Lasso calls attention to the Constitutional Court for lack of order in prisons

This morning there was a new massacre in the Litoral Penitentiary.

Behind the new massacre occurred on the night of Friday 12 and early morning of Saturday 13 November at the Litoral Penitentiary, President Guillermo Lasso spoke this afternoon holding the country’s institutions responsible for the lack of order in prisons.

“This is a call for attention to the institutions of the Ecuadorian State, in special to the Constitutional Court”, says one of his posts on Twitter. The president indicated that constitutional tools are needed to be able to protect the population, recover order in the prisons and fight the mafias.

His statement continues with another post in which he says: “The first right that we must guarantee is the right to life and citizen freedom, which it is not possible if the public force cannot act to protect”.

These messages are in addition to what was expressed by the commander of the National Police, Tannya varela, who pointed out that the murders registered in the Litoral Penitentiary are due to the freedom granted days ago to one of the leaders of the Los Tiguerones gang.

Guillermo Lasso is meeting at the facilities of the ECU-911 in Guayaquil with a Safety Committee and offered to give a important announcement after said meeting.

The president also expressed solidarity with the relatives of those who died in the confrontations inside the prison.

According to the State Attorney General’s Office, the preliminary list of Deaths amount to 68 and there are 25 people injured. (I)
