Germany, as part of restrictive measures against the Russian Federation, blocked 5.32 billion euros during the year of the conflict in Ukraine. This amount includes the assets of the Central Bank, sanctioned companies and individuals, RBC reports with reference to the message of the Federal Ministry of Finance of Germany.

At the same time, the department did not name the share that belongs to the “so-called oligarchs”. It is noted that in accordance with the law on the application of sanctions, the ministry must maintain a public register of frozen assets, but this rule is not currently implemented. The German Ministry of Finance said that “it is engaged in the technical implementation of the issue.”

Last spring, the department said it was “politically open” to the confiscation of the assets of the Russian Central Bank, but such a decision needs to be discussed, since the complexities associated with it are “too serious”. Discussions in Germany on this subject are still ongoing. In early January, Bloomberg sources reported that the country’s political parties were generally agreed to send blocked Russian assets to the restoration of Ukraine, but feared legal consequences, and therefore expected the actions of other Western partners of Kyiv.
