The United States will welcome the transfer of fighter jets to Ukraine by other countries, but the US administration is currently making no promises to join this type of assistance, John Kirby, coordinator of strategic communications for the White House National Security Council, said during a briefing for reporters.
Kirby called the possible desire of “partners and allies” to supply fighter jets to Kiev “their sovereign decision” and stressed that the US authorities “never dictated” to the allies what they could or could not supply to Ukraine.
Kirby also added that Washington will not talk about hypothetical support for Ukraine’s actions regarding Crimea until there are none. Decisions on such actions remain “with Zelensky,” he concluded.
The day before, US senators called on US President Joe Biden to supply Kyiv with fighter jets and long-range missiles. In their opinion, Washington should also start training Ukrainian pilots. In addition, the idea of transferring F-16 fighter jets to Kyiv was supported by the leader of the Republican minority in the Senate of the US Congress, Mitch McConnell.
