A Ukrainian court has sentenced a priest of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church to seven years in prison on charges of collaborating with the Russian Federation, who was detained by Ukrainian security forces in the territory of the Krasnolimansky district of the DPR under their control. This is reported by TASS with reference to the Security Service of Ukraine.
“According to the materials of the SBU, a priest of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (MP) will spend seven years behind bars,” the message on the SBU Telegram channel says.
“Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service, the court found the intruder guilty under Part 5 of Art. 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (collaboration activity). He was sentenced to seven years in prison with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of 12 years with confiscation of property,” the SBU said.
The report says that the convicted priest is the rector of one of the parishes of the UOC of the Krasnolimansky district of the DPR. According to the indictment, he publicly spoke in support of Russia and urged residents to support it, including voting for the entry of the DPR into the Russian Federation.
