The election results in the province of Azuay confirm the trend of the electoral process in the country: the undeniable rejection of the neoliberal Lasso-Borrero binomial model through consultations conceived as “tight”; and the swing of the pendulum that the prefecture of Azuay awarded to the Correísmo group (Juan Cristóbal Lloret Valdivieso, of the Civil Revolution) and the office of mayor of Cuenca to a more personal figure of the new official – Cristian Zamora Matute – than the party that once sponsored him, the Democratic Left.
The abandonment of the roads, despite the fact that the first minister of public works of this failed government was the former prefect of Cuenza, the former mayor, the former member of the assembly Marcelo Cabrera Palacios – another electoral victim after losing the election for the prefecture – , and the tearing state of insecurity could be the main causes that they explain the behavior of the Azuayos at the polls. Analysts and analysis will confirm this later.
Fresh in my mind were the unfulfilled offers of Guillermo Lasso Mendoza and Alfredo Borrero Vega – I won’t list them, but I will claim with absolute conviction that none, not one, was honored – so these results could be noticed in the sectional as well. But not on the topic of counseling: who can oppose the extradition of drug criminals? Just a betrayed, helpless electorate, deprived of basic health, education and public safety.
However. The period of complying with offers is coming, some in line with the intensity of the campaign, especially on the networks. I say, for example, that we will eagerly await the termination of the contract for the new photo-radar signed by the outgoing administration of Pedro Palacios Ullauri (who by the way rose to his first mayorship under the auspices of the party of brother Lenín Moreno Garcés, who is said to have been president of Ecuador) with a consortium that, according to the report of representative Bruno Segovia (Minka for Life), has signs of overvaluation and irregularities in the allocation.

These radars have already been installed on the streets and avenues, but they only started working after learning about the loss of Palacios Ullauri, for a process called “dry fine” after which investors will start getting their money back. Namely, the legal battle will be difficult and may involve remediation of the legal effects of the unilateral termination of the contract, which will be paid with the money of the people of Cuenca.
The second is in the field of mobility: the famous tram that still does not function as mass transport and whose support directly affects the municipal coffers that subsidize the current tickets. There is already news about the lack of spare parts to ensure operation over time.
For Cuenca, which has exceeded the threshold of intercity, the provision of services such as drinking water, telephony, public lighting are, among others, issues that follow in the priorities awaiting the new administration. Good luck, elected officials: you’re going to need it. (OR)
