Telegram channels with information hostile to Russia can be marked with “badges like foreign agents.” According to RBC, this was stated by the speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko at a meeting of the upper house of parliament.
Matviyenko said she did not know if this was technically possible.
“When enemy channels are from Ukraine, for example, they put their flag… and many camouflage. Maybe Roskomnadzor, which identifies enemy channels, some kind of uniform badges, like foreign agents or there is an undesirable structure, country, and so on … So that people, when reading, understand who is behind this, what is their goal, ”said Matvienko.
Matvienko raised the issue of marking Telegram channels after the speech of the first deputy chairman of the Federation Council committee on international affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov, who said that they have become the main source of information for most of the population.
“The names of Telegram channels often do not say anything about their owners and administrators. Many have loud, often very patriotic names. It is known that openly hostile channels are blocked by Roskomnadzor, but not all of them. After the start of a special military operation, more than 100 channels appeared on our network, which masquerade as Russian, but in reality were created by hostile foreign bloggers, mostly Ukrainian,” the senator said.
