The US military is considering sending to Ukraine intercepted Iranian weapons and ammunition destined for the Tehran-backed Houthis in Yemen. This is stated in an article in The Wall Street Journal.

The newspaper, citing American and European officials, writes that we are talking about more than 5,000 assault rifles, 1.6 million rounds of ammunition, some anti-tank missiles and more than 7,000 proximity fuses.

The weapons have been seized in recent months off the coast of Yemen from smugglers with links to Tehran, according to the article. At the same time, the WSJ writes, now the administration of the American leader will have to find legal grounds for transferring these weapons and ammunition to Kyiv. Under the UN arms embargo, the US and its allies must destroy, store, or dispose of captured weapons.

Recently, the Pentagon announced a new package of military assistance for Kyiv, the total amount of which exceeds $2 billion.
