The homicide of two men on a street in the Magdalena neighborhood alerted the inhabitants of San Lorenzo del Pailón, on the northern border of Esmeraldas.

This double crime happened after noon on Tuesday the 14th, near the cemetery of this town.

Two individuals who were riding a motorcycle carried out the attack, according to witnesses.

The subjects initially shot a man known as Henry inside a black automobile-type vehicle.

Another person, who was riding a black motorcycle, received a bullet wound to the right side of the skull.

This individual would be a collateral victim of this crime, since he apparently tried to help the occupant of the car.

The injured man on the motorcycle was taken in an agonizing state in the cargo bucket of a motorcycle that delivers freight to a nursing home, but he died.

Until Tuesday night there was no official statement from the San Lorenzo Police district.

While on recent Monday, two foreigners were shot on the public highway in the rural town of Ricaurte, which borders Mataje and is close to the international political border with Colombia.

In that episode there was also an explosion that left a person injured in a house, according to the San Lorenzo police report.

Residents of this town reported that the attack was committed by several unknown persons in military-style clothing, hooded, and with rifle-type weapons. One of the deceased is Andrés Alberto Franco, a 38-year-old Colombian, and another known as ‘Mexicano’, who is possibly from Venezuela.

This newspaper requested a version of the Esmeraldas Subzone command and reported that the Armed Forces should provide details, as it is a “sensitive issue” in the border area.

The police commander in charge of the area, Holguer Cortez, stated that approximately 48 deaths are registered in the green province due to violent acts, between January 1 and the second week of this month. One of these cases is that of a Dinapen police officer, who was killed for stealing his motorcycle and his endowment weapon in the south of the city of Esmeraldas, on recent Monday.

Meanwhile, military operations on the northern border are intensifying with land, sea, and air patrols.

As a result of these patrols between the 6th and 13th of this month, sacks with mineralized material, sedimentation pools, makeshift camps, distillation tanks, electricity generators were seized in the Buenos Aires parish, in Imbabura. (YO)
