The UN does not currently have the authority to investigate the explosions on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines. This statement was made by the representative of the Secretary General of the international organization Stefan Dujarric.
According to him, to conduct an investigation, permission is needed at the legislative level.
Earlier, the media wrote that the State Duma intends to turn to the UN with a proposal to urgently conduct an international investigation into the incident in the Baltic Sea with Nord Stream.
Earlier, Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström said that the government of the country has no influence on the course of the investigation into this case. He stressed that the Swedish prosecutor’s office is conducting an independent investigation, on the course of which the government has no influence.
When she finishes the investigation, a report will be presented on the results, the minister added.
Recall that on September 27, 2022, Nord Stream AG announced the “unprecedented destruction” that occurred the day before on three strings of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 offshore gas pipelines. Swedish seismologists registered two explosions on the pipeline routes that day.
