Swiss authorities have blocked $8.1 billion worth of Russian assets under sanctions, but Credit Suisse may have blocked other Russian assets that are sanctioned by other states. It is reported by “RIA Novosti” with reference to the press secretary of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economics Antje Bertschi.

Local media previously wrote that one of the largest Swiss banks, Credit Suisse, blocked or froze more than a third of Russian assets registered in the country, more than $19 billion.

According to the agency’s interlocutor, as of December 1, 2022, $ 8.1 billion is blocked in Switzerland. The figures provided by Credit Suisse include not only funds blocked due to Swiss sanctions, but also funds owned by individuals or legal entities for which sanctions have been imposed in other countries, Birchy explained.

She noted that now the government has also frozen 15 properties located in six cantons.

Recall that Switzerland has joined almost all EU sanctions against Russia because of the conflict in Ukraine.
