The reason for the depressurization on the Progress MS-21 cargo ship was the leakage of the coolant of the thermal control system. According to TASS, this was announced by the executive director of Roscosmos for manned space programs, Sergei Krikalev.
“On a cargo ship that has been docked to the station for several months, there was a coolant leak from the thermal control system,” he said and added that a similar incident occurred in December with Soyuz MS-22.
Krikalev indicated that after the second depressurization incident, the corporation would conduct “an in-depth analysis to make sure that this cause does not apply to similar designs on future launches.”
The corporation announced the depressurization on the ship on the afternoon of February 11. “Progress MS-21” was isolated from the total volume of the ISS, the temperature and pressure on board the station remained normal.
It was planned that on February 18, MS-21 would undock with the station. On February 11, another cargo ship, Progress MS-22, moored to it, the depressurization incident did not affect this process.
