Theft of medium voltage cables caused a blackout in the center of Machala; there is discomfort in inhabitants who say that service interruption is constant

For about a month, in various sectors of Machala there have been unexpected power cuts that cause discomfort among citizens, who ask the National Electricity Corporation (CNEL) to know what is the cause of sudden service interruptions.

On the morning of this Saturday, February 11, said entity published a message on Twitter in which it reported the theft of underground medium voltage lines at the height of ECU911, a situation that has caused several sites in the center of the capital of the province of El Oro run out of electricity.

“El Oro technical staff is working to restore the damage caused by these unscrupulous people,” CNEL published.

The message is accompanied by two photographs of the sector in which the theft of the cables took place. In one of the graphics you can even see a medium knife.

But, beyond this theft denounced by the entity, there are those who maintain that the problem of interruptions in energy service is a constant, and that this is already beginning to take its toll on businesses and commercial establishments.

On occasions, the involvement usually resolves in a few hours; but, in others, the lack of electricity persists throughout the day, according to what the neighbors mentioned.

Power outages in Guayas

This Saturday morning, CNEL also exposed the execution of works to restore electrical service in the Montebello sector, in the north of Guayaquil, Guayas province.

At this site, the interruption in the power supply had already been reported at the end of January. On that occasion, CNEL personnel, Guayaquil Business Unit, indicated that a short circuit and disconnection of the sector was caused by the fall of a communication line.

During this Saturday there were also interruptions in the La Joya and Villa del Rey urbanizations, located in the La Aurora parish, jurisdiction of the Daule canton. Service was restored after approximately two hours.

For this Sunday, February 12, the National Electricity Corporation will carry out maintenance at the La Ercilla substation, located in the Ventanas canton, Los Ríos province.

The tasks will be carried out from 06:00 to 09:00, so there will be interruptions in the electrical service in this town, in the Quinsaloma canton and in all its precincts, as well as in the El Guineo parish and surrounding sectors.

While between 07:00 and 10:00 maintenance work will be carried out in some sectors of the Joya de los Sachas canton in the province of Orellana, in the East.

In said time slot, the Central neighborhood will be without power, from Jaime Roldós street to Machala; Jaime Roldós neighborhood; 5th June; Machala; Oscar Romero; Olalla, Granda and Quilligana subdivisions. (YO)
