“What happened in Toacazo (with the cremation of two men) would be due to a dispute between foreign mafias”

Latacunga

The prefect-elect of Cotopaxi, Lourdes Tibán, this Friday was in the provincial government of Tungurahua, at the invitation of her similar Manuel Caizabanda, to, together with the prefects of the central zone, constitute a commonwealth in order to work on joint projects and actions.

There he referred to the events that took place this Thursday morning in the Toacazo parish, Latacunga, where two foreigners were burned, presumably after they had tried to end the life of a citizen at the sector’s fuel station.

Their gun jammed and they were chased, caught and beaten by a mob before being set on fire.

“I have just talked with the president of the Planchaloma organization (the place where the two subjects were taken to be burned), I have asked him to please collaborate with the investigations, the Unase (Anti-kidnapping and Extortion Unit) has called me asking collaboration and it has been determined that they are Venezuelan mafias,” he asserted.

He added that, according to Unase personnel and all the people behind the investigations, the Venezuelans have not yet left the territory.

Two foreign men accused of a crime were burned in Toacazo

Given this, he said, even to safeguard the image of the indigenous peoples, what must be done is that the organization Unocanc (Union of Peasant Organizations of the North of Cotopaxi) takes the lead to investigate in the territory who they were, that that is what you have asked.

He said that indigenous justice will not be allowed to be confused with the unfortunate lynching that has taken place by mafias in Planchaloma, reiterating that it is clear that the indigenous peoples did not act.

It has been identified that it was a confrontation between Venezuelans, which must be over the issue of drugs, weapons and money, he indicated.

The prefect-elect of Cotopaxi commented that in what happened in Planchaloma there is no indigenous justice, because this is when indigenous authorities participate in an assembly called to judge, but that in the aforementioned incident they arrived at the patio dragging the two people and that they were the Venezuelans those who set the fire.

It is known that there would be a third person who was with the two cremated.

Tibán commented that he also spoke with the governor of Cotopaxi, Tania Vásquez, because she is convinced that the issue of security must unite both the authority of the Executive and those of popular election, because what happened in Planchaloma and everything What happens in a matter of crimes in the province cannot turn it into a red zone.

Álex Toapanta, president of the Movimiento Indígena y Campesino de Cotopaxi (MICC), assured that the organizations had nothing to do with the incident and that they reject some assertions that try to make believe that an indigenous justice procedure has been applied, violating the lives of two foreign people

He insisted that in the province of Cotopaxi and the country there is a high level of insecurity and that it is the responsibility of the national government to create public policies to prevent this issue. (YO)
