The chief doctor of the St. Petersburg private ambulance “Koris” Lev Averbakh explained why the figure skater Roman Kostomarov may need an amputation.
According to a specialist cited by Izvestia, gangrene often develops on the limbs, moreover, on the arms or legs, independently of each other. As Averbakh suggested, Kostomarov had bacterial pneumonia, the consequence of which was sepsis spreading throughout the body.
“Sepsis, necrosis, gangrene is very fleeting, if you do not amputate the limbs, you will die,” the doctor quotes the publication.
Recall that Roman Kostomarov’s condition required surgical intervention. Doctors struggled with tissue necrosis of the lower extremities. Later, the media reported that the athlete had problems with blood circulation in his hands – his fingers did not bend and turned black. It was noted that the skater agreed to amputation if there was a threat to life.
Let’s remind, the Olympic champion of Turin-2006 is in hospital since January, 10th. The other day he turned 46 years old. Relatives, friends, as well as athletes and coaches warmly congratulated Kostomarov and expressed confidence that he would be able to overcome the trials that fell to his lot, assured him of their love and all-round support.
