On the afternoon of this Thursday, after learning about the cremation of two foreigners accused of attempting the life of a resident of the Toacazo parish, Latacunga, leaders of the Cotopaxi Indigenous and Campesino Movement (MICC) and the Union of Organizations Rural women from North Cotopaxi (Unocanc) met to analyze this case.

According to preliminary versions, this Thursday, three subjects made an attempt on the life of a person in front of the fuel station in Toacazo, but at the time of firing the weapon jammed and they could not commit the crime.

Before the media, the president of Unocanc, Ramiro Guamaní, assured that they were not at the place where the act was committed, that he was in Latacunga and that for that reason he does not know anything about what happened, but that estimates that the population acted because of the situation of “insecurity” with which they live.

Álex Toapanta, president of the MICC, assured that the organizations had nothing to do with the event and that they reject some assertions that try to make believe that an indigenous justice procedure has been applied, violating the lives of two foreigners.

He insisted that in the province of Cotopaxi and the country there is a high level of insecurity and that it is the responsibility of the national government to create public policies to prevent this issue.

Toapanta invited the recently inaugurated governor of Cotopaxi, Tania Vásquez, as well as the Prosecutor’s Office, to adopt investigative measures to determine what happened in the Toacazo parish.

Similarly, the leader called on the population to prevent this type of action from being repeated and asked to join the great fight for the security of Cotopaxi, but always respecting human rights.

He assured that they are not aware that another person is being held, but that investigations and inquiries continue to be carried out to determine exactly the circumstances that led to the retention of the other two individuals by the community and the reasons that led to the absence. outcome.
