A sentence of two years in prison is the sentence imposed by a court on former police officer Marco Julio OT, who would have participated directly in the theft of $158,000 and four cell phones.
This case was detected in December 2017. That year, the theft of money and other property from the Center for the Collection of Indications and Evidence of the Judicial Police in Durán was discovered.
According to the complaint made by the Police, there was a shortage of $158,000 and several high-end cell phones. The responsibilities pointed to the policeman Marco Julio OT, who performed the functions of custodian within said warehouses.

According to investigations, the agent requested twenty-two days of vacation after the crime was committed. Once his holiday was over, he disappeared and did not justify his absence from work.
This process reached a Criminal Court made up of Manuel Armas, Martha Gavilánez and Abraham Cheing. They accepted the evidence presented by the Prosecutor’s Office and unanimously issued the sentence against the former agent.
They also decided to impose a fine of twelve basic salaries ($5,400) and the payment of $158,000 as comprehensive reparation to the National Police (as affected).
During the trial hearing, held on the afternoon and evening of Tuesday -and after more than five reinstatements counted since 2022- in the Durán Multi-competent Judicial Unit, prosecutor Cecilia Rodríguez Arboleda presented as evidence the arrest and investigative reports of both the Judicial Police and Internal Affairs of the National Police.

In addition, the reports of evidence found in the internal audits (missing money and cell phones) and the recognition report of the scene of the events were attached.
Added to this were the testimonies of seventeen people, including investigative agents, experts and police officers who delivered the assets to the now sentenced person, on the date the events occurred.
The private prosecution by the National Police was represented by Colonel Ángel Esquivel Moscoso.
The Prosecutor’s Office processed this case based on article 198 of the Comprehensive Organic Criminal Code (COIP), which penalizes the crime of theft of what was seized with a maximum of two years in prison. (YO)
