The COE has announced that the Education proposal will be analyzed and that it will communicate the final decision on the matter on November 15.
The Ministry of Education of Ecuador made a proposal to the National Emergency Operations Committee to give way to the development of face-to-face classes at all school levels as of January 17, 2022.
According to the calendar proposed by the Ministry of Education, the mandatory return to face-to-face classes is foreseen on November 22, followed by a gradual process that must be completed until January 17 throughout the country and will definitively put an end to virtuality to cause of the covid-19 pandemic.
The work schedule includes three phases for the complete return to presence:
- The students of technical, rural and Galapagos Islands would return to classes on November 22.
- On December 6, the rest of the high school and basic higher education students would do so, that is, minors between 12 and 17 years old.
- On January 17 it is scheduled for schoolchildren of all levels.
Additionally, the educational authorities have raised the possibility that the private and fiscal institutions can obtain authorization to expand their offer in order to meet the virtual and face-to-face modalities.
In the Fiscal educational centers will only have a face-to-face or distance systemTherefore, there will be no hybrid modality (face-to-face modality combined with virtual), for which students who do not wish to attend must request their transfer to an institution that has a distance modality.
The return to classes is based on the advance of vaccination in Ecuador, where 10.3 million people have been fully immunized against covid-19, out of a target population (over 5 years) of 16 million, according to official data .
One of the proposals made by the Ministry to maintain biosecurity measures will be to divide the students for recess and prioritize outdoor activities.
Students suffering from chronic or aggravating diseases will be included in the exceptions of the protocol for the mandatory return to the presence that will be effective once it has the approval of the National COE.
