Guillermo Lasso gave the names of five judges who have favored criminals

A week after the government announced that it will denounce corrupt judges who have benefited members of criminal gangs with their decisions, on Tuesday night President Guillermo Lasso revealed the names of five judges whom he described as “bad.”

The first to be mentioned was Ángel Harry Lindao Vera, dismissed as a multi-competent judge of La Concordia for gross negligence.

Lasso pointed out that Lindao should be investigated by the Prosecutor’s Office. He recalled that in June 2022 he issued a protection action to return assets seized from the late Leonardo Norero, alias Pattern.

The former magistrate also ordered the release of the murderer of a councilor when he had barely served two of the 24-year sentence. And he ordered the transfer of Freddy Anchundia, leader of the R7 gang, from La Roca prison to Santo Domingo.

The second name that Lasso gave was that of Juan Carlos Terán Moreno, from Guayaquil, who signed more than 15 release tickets for criminals. He said that this “bad judge” revoked the pretrial detention of five suspected antisocials, despite the fact that law enforcement detained them with weapons and drugs.

And he declared Jacobo Bucaram and his father, Abdalá Bucaram, innocent, who were being prosecuted for the alleged crime of trafficking in patrimonial assets.

The President of the Republic also spoke of judges Mary Alexandra Quintero Prado and José Luis Alarcón Bowen, for having ratified the innocence of 18 people dedicated to drug trafficking.

This case took the National Police a year of investigation and was even coordinated by the DEA of the United States, said the president.

Then he gave the name of Emerson Geovanny Curipallo Ulloa, a judge from Santo Domingo, who signed more than fifteen release tickets, “abusing the protection action,” said Lasso.

“It extended the effects of precautionary measures; habeas corpus or protection actions in favor of a murderer sentenced to 22 years in prison, a murderer with 25 years in prison and a rapist sentenced to 22 years in prison,” added the president.

The head of state said that each of the questioned judges “is a threat to justice and peace.”

Publicly exposing the identities of the five magistrates was one of the three decisions adopted by the Public and State Security Council (Cosepe), he said.

The other two actions taken were to file a formal complaint with the Judicial Council and file a formal complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office. The Secretary of Security, Diego Ordóñez, will be in charge of this.

The other functions and institutions of the State must join this crusade for security, Lasso commented. (YO)
