Police rescue businessman who was kidnapped in Orellana province; they asked $ 700,000 for his release

The Minister of Government, Alexandra Vela, said that the Sucumbíos businessman worked in the town of Orellana and was held for 30 days.

Personnel from the National Anti-Kidnapping and Extortion Investigation Unit (Unase) managed to rescue a citizen who had been kidnapped in the Joya de los Sachas, in the province of Orellana.

According to the Police, citizen Fernando A. had been intercepted by unknown individuals together with his wife, who minutes later was released, on October 12. After the complaint, specialized personnel from Unase carried out different investigative and location tasks.

During the Libertad 23 operation, which took place last Wednesday the 10th, the team managed to free the victim and also captured four individuals who would be the kidnappers, three members of the same family (a father and two brothers) and another close friend. Among the evidence were three firearms, four mobile phones and allegedly military clothing.

The Minister of Government, Alexandra Vela, said that the Sucumbíos businessman worked in Joya de los Sachas and was held for 30 days in a jungle area of ​​that same Amazonian town. The victim’s health condition is stable, he said.

Vela added that the kidnappers had asked the victim’s relatives for $ 700,000 to release him.

This Thursday the 11th, in Quito, the businessman was reunited with his relatives.

Fernando A. thanked for the work of the authorities and the Police Unit for achieving his rescue alive. “Thanks to the will of my God that I always entrusted myself to Him and asked Him to always give me the strength to be able to resist,” he declared. (I)
