Gabriel Balladares, Pachakutik candidate, leads votes for Playas Mayor and surpasses Dany Mite, who is seeking re-election

I CREO, the government party, could lose the Mayor’s Office of Playas, a resort in Guayas. Dany Mite, the current mayor, who was seeking re-election, is in second place when most of the minutes are entered.

And who could occupy that place is a political shop that had not previously won that mayoralty, since Playas has had mayors from local movements, from the Social Christian Party and from Alianza País.

With 94.53% counted, Daniel Balladares, from Pachakutik, had 7,571 votes, which represented 25.49%; followed by Mite, the current mayor, with 5,385 votes, 18.13%.

In third position was Miriam Lucas, PSC candidate, who was trying to return to the Mayor’s Office, of which she was already a part when Rafael Correa governed. She had 5,018 votes, 16.89%.

This Tuesday morning, Balladares was confident in his victory, with little left to close the tally of minutes.

Creo candidate wins mayoralty of Playas

“About 95% of the tally sheets processed show us as winners. Still waiting for this process to end with as much transparency as possible. Once finished, we are going to celebrate this great victory by walking together for the real change”, he said.

He asked his constituents to be calm, but attentive to celebrate the victory.

During his campaign, Balladares toured various sectors of the canton and had offered to take artists such as Karol G, Ozuna and Romeo Santos under his management.

Last January, Leonidas Iza was in that canton supporting a proselytizing activity with Balladares.

The current mayor, on the other hand, said that they have reviewed inconsistencies in some tally sheets. “The numbers of voters do not match the sum of voters party by party. Waiting for final results ”, he pointed out in the last hours.

In the past elections, the CREO candidate counted more than 10,800 votes (34.85%), surpassing Miriam Lucas, the mayor at that time, who was running for re-election. She registered 9,500 votes (30.71%).

Lucas ran in the elections sponsored by an alliance between the Social Christian Party (PSC) and the 75 movement. (YO)
