How to obtain the criminal record certificate

The Criminal Record Certificate, formerly called the Police Record, is obtained free of charge and is done online. This document is issued by the Ministry of the Interior and shows the judicial record of a person, with information from the National Police database.

The law prohibits its presentation in any type of public or private procedure. However, it is still requested in other processes such as the online recruitment of civil or public entities, such as the National Police and the Armed Forces; or to live, work or study abroad.

This certificate is an electronically signed document; its validity period is ninety days from its issue date. In the lower left part of it is the date of validity.

If they request the certificate in another country and they are still in Ecuador, they can go to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to have the document stamped. If you are already outside Ecuadorian territory, then you will have to go to the Ecuadorian consulate or embassy _depending on the country where you are_ and request that they submit the certificate.

On the other hand, if the person who needs this certificate is a foreigner residing in the country, this person must have their passport number registered in the Integrated System of the Ecuadorian National Police (SIIPNE).

Steps to obtain the certificate online:

Enter https://certificados.ministeriodelinterior.gob.ec/gestorcertificados/antecedentes/

• Indicate if the police record is for an Ecuadorian or foreign citizen. And depending on the case, select the type of document and the identity card number. Next you will have to indicate the Reason for the Consultation.

• If your data is registered in the system, it will automatically appear in the window.

• Finally, the result will appear (whether or not the person has a criminal record) and the ‘View Certificate’ button to download the document in PDF format and print it. (YO)
