Three candidates for the Mayor’s Office of Quito react prudently, who according to the ‘exit poll’ have a technical tie

The candidates for mayor of Quito Pabel Muñoz, from the Revolución Ciudadana movement, and Pedro Freile, from the UIO alliance, who according to the results of the exit poll they would have a technical tie with Jorge Yunda, also a candidate for the Juntos por la Gente alliance, they reacted prudently and activated electoral control.

None of the three candidates for the seat of the Metropolitan District of Quito organized the celebration, in the first hours of the vote they remained silent and answered questions to the press. There were also no celebrations in the streets, as in previous electoral contests.

Pabel Muñoz appeared together with the candidate for re-election in the Pichincha Prefecture, Paola Pabón, who called on the militancy to be prudent and wait for the official results. Both indicated that they activated the electoral control and that the results show good news in their favor, that it is only a matter of waiting for the results, and called on the rest of the opponents to respect the will of the people.

Muñoz, in his first statements, said that Sunday’s results leave them satisfied, but in view of the first data he pointed out: “We must have the prudence that all mature democratic behavior requires, we have very well covered electoral control and with that electoral control we have very good news for us, which obviously we will reserve until the margin of error is less, the data load is greater and, above all, wait for the official results”.

The candidate for the Citizen Revolution movement rejected the acts of violence unleashed against candidates in the country, and announced that after this electoral process they will make a crusade for peace and security in the country.

The candidate for Mayor Pedro Freile received the results at the headquarters of the UIO alliance, together with his followers, where he said that the pronouncement at the polls is received with humility and prudence until the last vote is counted.

He commented that they are prepared to crown the process, that they have an electoral strategy that has been fulfilled and that they activated electoral control to avoid fraud. He called on political organizations not to cheat and responsibly accept the results of this Sunday.

Freile said that he maintains the expectation and that he will remain at the headquarters of the alliance, but that he feels full of democracy, and pointed out that they adopted some measures with technological tools to exercise electoral control, which will be announced after the scrutiny is over. .

The candidate for Mayor of Quito Jorge Yunda, for the Juntos por la Gente alliance, said that he will accept the official results, a task that corresponds to the National Electoral Council (CNE).

At the age of 57, he seeks to become the Mayor of Quito for the second time. In June 2021, he was removed as mayor with the votes of fourteen council members.

According to the results of a exit poll from the Market company, there is a technical tie between Yunda, from Together for the People; Pabel Muñoz, from the Citizen Revolution; and, Pedro Freile, from UIO, United Inclusive and Organized.

This newspaper consulted Yunda’s communication team about whether the candidate was going to refer to the electoral process and they replied that they will do so once the official results are delivered.

And then the candidate was consulted, through a message via WhatsApp, if he had any pronouncement. Yunda -in a brief voice recording- replied that democracy wins, and that whoever gets elected, at the end of the official data, receives the support of everyone in these difficult circumstances that the city and the country are experiencing, because that is called democracy .

“I will accept the official results and as the most respectful of that sovereign decision of the people,” he said. (YO)
