Once the sectional elections this Sunday, February 5, the candidate for the Pichincha prefecture, Guillermo Churuchumbi, assured that he will wait for the official electoral results, called on his militancy to be aware of the vote count, and said that it will be the “future prefect”.

He was the first indigenous person to be elected mayor of the Cayambe canton in 2014 and was reelected for the period 2019-2023. He is running for the electoral alliance ‘Together for the people’, made up of the movements Pachakutik (PK), People, Equality and Democracy (PID) and Mover (formerly Alianza PAÍS, led by former President Rafael Correa).

He thanked the people of Pichincha, as he affirmed that his candidacy was accepted. He mentioned that they are waiting for the official data as announced by the National Electoral Council (CNE).
According to exit poll data from the Market company, the winner of the prefecture would be Paola Pabón from the Revolución Ciudadana movement with 32.01%.
Churuchumbi, who would have obtained 19.88% of the votes, was asked about those results, and he replied that the president of the CNE, Diana Atamaint, has stated that those data are not official.
He added that, in most of the polls prior to the elections on Saturday, he was the one who led them, so he will wait calmly and patiently.

Churuchumbi mentioned that he met with delegates from the Organization of American States (OAS) and that they will be vigilant of the electoral process.
“We invite all the parishes in the province of Pichincha, all the cantons, all the organizations of the communities of Cayambe, Pedro Moncayo, Mejía, all the carriers, all the market associations, to defend their vote. (…) It cannot be, the vote of the people of Pichincha, the confidence of the people of Pichincha, cannot be mocked in the electoral count,” he said at a press conference.
That political organization -he announced- that has located its delegates in the different electoral precincts at the province level. (YO)
