The Khankh-Mondy border checkpoint on the Russian-Mongolian border in Buryatia will be closed from February 21 to 26 in connection with the celebration of the New Year according to the lunar calendar. This is reported by Vesti Buryatia with reference to the press service of the border department of the FSB in the region.

“Please note that during this period, crossing the state border remains possible through the multilateral automobile checkpoint Kyakhta, the railway checkpoint Naushki, as well as the air checkpoints Ulan-Ude (Mukhino) and Irkutsk,” the ministry said.

The FSB stressed that the decision to close the border checkpoint was made by the Mongolian authorities.

Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov, in response to a question whether the closure of the border checkpoint on the border with Mongolia, as well as the Upper Lars checkpoint on the border with Georgia, was due to mobilization activity or the weather, advised contacting the Ministry of Emergency Situations for comments.

“It has been announced. There should be no reason not to trust. Contact the Ministry of Emergency Situations, they will explain to you,” he said.

Earlier, on February 2, the Ministry of Emergency Situations announced that the passage of all types of transport through the Upper Lars border checkpoint would be closed until further notice due to the worsening weather in Georgia. The department referred to the inability to ensure road safety in such conditions.

After the announcement in Russia of partial mobilization on September 21, 2022, queues of cars formed at the border with Georgia at Upper Lars. Russians also traveled to Mongolia — in the third quarter of 2022, 65,000 people went there, according to FSB statistics.
