Elections 2023: Can I ask for leave at work to go vote on February 5?

Ecuadorians are getting ready to live a new election day. This Sunday, February 5, more than 13 million citizens have been summoned to exercise their right to vote.

Through a lottery, the National Electoral Council (CNE) designated the members of the board receiving the vote who must install the polling stations and count the results.

Can you vote on February 5 despite having an expired ID?

For several citizens the working day is from Monday to Friday, however, for others these may involve weekends.

The Labor Code contemplates a right for employees so that they can exercise the right to vote. Article 42 states that one of the obligations of employers is to grant their workers the necessary time to exercise their suffrage in popular elections as long as this do not exceed four hours.

This leave will not mean a reduction in salary.

Citizens can go to the polls between 07:00 and 17:00 to be able to vote, they only need to carry their identity card or passport, regardless of the expiration date. (YO)
