The International Olympic Committee called it premature to talk about the participation of Russian athletes in the Olympics in Paris. According to a posting on the IOC website, it is currently only concerned with international competitions in Asia for the upcoming summer sports season.
“In none of the documents published by the IOC, you will find a mention of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris for athletes with a Russian or Belarusian passport,” the committee noted.
The IOC also said it would not “speculate” about the participation of the athletes of the two countries in the Games, “without knowing whether the first step will be taken and how.”
“But one thing is clear: we are not talking about Russian or Belarusian athletes, we are talking about neutral athletes who comply with the strict conditions that we have set, including the absence of any identification with their country and NOCs and full compliance with anti-doping rules” , the statement says.
The IOC will also not ask international federations to change the rules for qualifying for the Olympics for the sake of Russians and Belarusians, who have already missed the chance to qualify for them in their sports.
