The US presidential administration allowed the transfer of American F-16 fighters to Kyiv through third countries, writes The New York Times, citing high-ranking officials.

Although President Joe Biden has refused to supply fighter jets to Ukraine, the administration may decide to do so later or, more likely, allow other countries to hand over their own F-16s, several sources said.

In particular, Denmark or the Netherlands can do this, American and European officials suggest. The latter, according to officials, have about 40 American fighters and are now moving to more modern F-35s, so they can send several of their F-16s to Ukraine.

F-16 fighter maker Lockheed Martin has not ruled out supplying its combat aircraft to Ukraine through countries that “want to help resolve the conflict.”

We will remind, earlier Biden answered negatively to the question of journalists about sending American fighters to Ukraine. John Kirby, strategic communications coordinator for the White House National Security Council, after the president’s refusal, explained that Washington is providing Kyiv with large amounts of weapons and “weapons that will be of critical importance to the Ukrainian army.”
