Turkey’s largest provider of ground handling services at Havaş airports has announced risks with servicing imported aircraft in the fleets of airlines from Russia, Belarus, Iran and businessman Roman Abramovich. According to RBC, this is stated in a letter from the head of the company, Mete Erna.

The list attached to Erna’s letter says that service may be denied mainly to American-made Boeing aircraft, as well as several European Airbus aircraft.

The list includes more than 170 aircraft of Russian airlines, seven Belarusian and four Iranian. The largest operator of these aircraft is Aeroflot. It also mentions business jets Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Gulfstream G650, according to the company, owned by businessman Roman Abramovich.

Although, according to RBC, the representative of the businessman said that Abramovich does not have planes in Turkey.

Havaş explained that the company received information about “warning letters” sent to representatives of the Turkish aviation industry by the US Department of Commerce. They talk about temporary denial of service decisions on a number of airlines due to “continued violations of the EAR.”

The fact is that the maintenance of aircraft flying to Russia and Belarus and assembled by more than 25% using technologies of American origin and operated by companies that have fallen under restrictions, is a violation of export regulations

Havaş has now launched due diligence to assess the risks to its business and stakeholders.
