In Peru, about 2 million people in the country may be left without drinking water in the coming days due to protests that are accompanied by road closures. This is reported by Interfax with reference to the supervisory authority of the republic, which controls the work of sanitary services and water quality.

“2 million people may be left without drinking water in the coming days. Of these, 330,000 are children,” the department’s page on the social network says. We are talking about residents of the departments of Ancash, Apurimac, Arequipa, Cusco and Puno. More than 4,200 medical institutions may be without access to drinking water, the report says.

Supply problems may arise due to the lack of water treatment chemicals. The blockages of roads by participants in anti-government protests led to supply disruptions.

After the removal from power of the head of state Pedro Castillo on December 7, 2022, protests began in Peru. Their participants demand the resignation of President Dina Boluarte, the closure of parliament and the holding of new elections. The speeches are accompanied by blocking roads in the regions, attacks on airports and clashes with government officials. Nearly 60 people died and hundreds were injured in the violence.
