The Municipality of Quito offered to repair 10 road sections affected by the flood that occurred on January 31, 2022. The investment for these works will be $1.6 million.

This was confirmed by the authorities in a press conference held at the Municipal Palace, on the morning of this Tuesday, January 31.
When remembering a year after the catastrophic afternoon that took the lives of 29 people, some videos were reproduced and in them the force with which the water, mud, logs and stones descended from the El Tejado ravine was evidenced.
The stories of survivors, some of them present at this event, gave an account of the moments of terror experienced by the inhabitants of La Comuna Santa Clara de San Millán and La Gasca, in the north center of Quito.
The flood melted La Comuna and La Gasca, two Quito neighborhoods with different realities and origins
The ten streets that will be intervened are: Fulgencio Araujo, José Berrutieta, Antonio Herrera, Pasaje N24C, Munive, Ignacio de Quezada, Enrique Richter, Fco. Javier Lizarazu, Núñez de Bonilla and La Gasca will have a new image.
In total, according to the authorities, $9 million have been invested in the Plan for the Rehabilitation, Reactivation and Recovery of La Comuna and La Gasca.
Fernando Sánchez, secretary of Inclusion, indicated that during the emergency, the Metropolitan Emergency Operations Committee (COE) activated the municipal shelters, but no one agreed to go to these places, as relatives helped them.
He also highlighted the importance of data collection, with this he pointed out that they determined that there were 160 affected families, 555 people. They delivered 837 kits to 250 families.
“No one wants to come, they are afraid of another landslide”: a year after the flood in La Comuna and La Gasca, fear of inhabitants persists
They also delivered 100 kits for children and adolescents.
These consisted of toys, stuffed animals, painting material and four Saturdays of spaces with games and psychological support.
Among the data delivered at the press conference, which refers to the work carried out since the emergency and during the past year, is the following:
- 160 affected families.
- 29 deceased.
- $9 million invested.
- 5,889 food, hygiene, health and other kits.
- 242 household items.
- 362 appliances.
- 40 tablets.
- 48 vehicles.
- 1,514 medical attentions.
- 973 psychological care.
- Maintenance and cleaning of the El Tejado stream and other intake structures and collectors.
- Three widows have jobs.
- Three university places were achieved, and they will seek six more for this year.
Fear persists among the residents of the Santa Clara de San Millán Commune. Several inhabitants assured that they have not received the help, that some who did not deserve it benefited.
Given this, the municipal representatives said that they acted in accordance with the list that was identified with the brigades themselves and the information collected in the days after the flood.
“Not only the emergency was attended. The rehabilitation, reactivation and recovery plan was developed”, argued Jaime Bucheli, manager of EP Emseguridad, who added that they have maintained permanent work in the affected areas.
Overflow of stream in Guayllabamba affected 20 houses; emergency bonds and humanitarian aid were activated
A year ago, the inhabitants of the north center of the capital experienced a tragedy, around 6:00 p.m. a great wave of water and materials took away the citizens who were sharing a sporting event on an ecuavolleyball court.
Some survivors still remember that afternoon as a dark chapter, for having lost loved ones. (YO)
