Inhabitants of coastal towns in Esmeraldas organized mingas to evacuate sand carried by waves

Inhabitants of various sectors of Muisne, in the south of Esmeraldas, carried out mingas to evacuate sand and water accumulated by the strong waves that were registered during this week.

Mompiche, Quingue, Muisne, Tonchigüe, Súa, Canchimalero, Limones and Las Peñas are the most affected towns when the sea hits.

Waves of more than two meters will reach the continental and insular coast during the weekend

For this reason, the inhabitants demanded the construction of breakwater or rock walls, said Santiago Fernández, community leader of the Mompiche spa.

Stones and objects carried by the sea affected some houses and premises located near the beach, with the waves of the previous week the same as what happened two years ago.

The residents planned to request these protection works from the President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, during his visit to Quinindé and Atacames to deliver deeds this week.

The situation worries the inhabitants of Mompiche, who are asking the authorities for actions to withstand the waves that are announced for February along with the carnival water, said Santiago Fernández.

For their part, residents of the Quingue parish, in Muisne, also suffered the ravages of the waves.

Byron Proaño, vice president of the Quingue parish government, said that with mingas the sand and stagnant water that affected mobility within the town was evacuated.

In Tonchigüe, Las Peñas, Canchimalero and Limones await the repair of the boardwalk and the protection walls, projects that have been previously presented to the National Service for Risk and Emergency Management (SNRGE), said David Rosero, mayor of Eloy Alfaro.

Until this Saturday, January 28, no news was reported due to the ravages of the sea over the weekend.

Red flags and lifeguards are activated with groups of lifeguards in case of any eventuality with bathers who enter the sea. This, since the Oceanographic and Antarctic Institute of the Navy (Inocar) warned of the presence of waves of up to two meters for this weekend. (YO)
