In 2022, individuals sent record volumes of money transfers from Russia to neighboring countries. According to RBC, they have become popular for relocation and card tourism.
So, for example, according to the data of the National Bank of Kazakhstan, about $775.4 million was sent from Russia in 2022. This is a record minimum since 2014. The publication notes that the figure in dollars is 6.8 times the volume of transfers sent to this country in 2021.
Approximately $2 billion was transferred to Georgia from Russia in 2022. These are record numbers at least since 2012.
The volume of money transfers from the Russian Federation to Uzbekistan amounted to $14.5 billion last year. Over the year, it increased by 2.6 times.
The National Banks of Armenia and Kyrgyzstan have not yet published data for the entire 2022. However, according to the results of 11 months of 2022, the volume of transfers from Russia to Armenia quadrupled compared to the same period a year earlier: to $3.1 billion. In January-November 2022, individuals sent $2.6 billion to Kyrgyzstan from Russia. This is also record since 2005.
The publication points out that one of the main reasons for the growth in transfers is the relocation of citizens: the peak periods are the spring and autumn of 2022, when a special operation in Ukraine and partial mobilization in Russia were announced.
