The victim was taken to the Los Ceibos hospital, while one of the thieves was detained by the drivers.
A motorcyclist on his way to work was surprised by two criminals at kilometer 11 of the road to Daule, ahead of Fort Huancavilca.
It happened around 09:30 on Tuesday. Witnesses said that at the traffic light, two thieves tried to steal the motorcycle from a man who was going to work at a shrimp farm in the sector.
“One pointed the gun at him and the other brought him a knife,” said a driver who saw how in the struggle a truck ran over the motorcyclist, who ended up under the vehicle with a broken leg.
“When he was injured on the floor, the thief approached him to hit him to take his things, it’s incredible. There we joined forces, we followed him and we hit him hard, but the other (thief of the knife) did manage to escape, ”said another driver.
The witnesses explained that the armed criminal tried to run away when he saw the traffic that caused the accident, as people began to follow him and help the wounded man.
“It seems that the thief threw the gun when he was running because we were following him, but a security guard from a company realized what was happening, pointed his gun at him and stopped him. There we caught up with him and hit him hard ”, said the man who was outraged at the action of the criminals.
While the drivers caught the thief, other people helped the injured man, called ECU911 and spoke to him to reassure him.
“He told me that he lived alone with his mother and that she had recently undergone surgery. She did not want me to call her so as not to scare her, ”said another witness to the event, who demanded that the police look for the firearm that the detainee had used.
The wounded man was taken to the hospital of the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS) Los Ceibos, where he is recovering, while the thief was taken to the Modelo barracks to be presented to the flagrante delicto prosecutor.
The victim’s motorcycle was taken to the North Vehicle Retention yard, as evidence. In addition, the detainee had five $ 20 bills in his pocket, which were apparently false.
The accident accused traffic in that area for at least an hour. (I)
