Locals for the sale of police and military clothing will be registered in the province of Guayas

Getting clothing from institutions like the National Police is easier than it seems in Guayaquil. At least this is demonstrated by the recent criminal acts in which antisocials with suits similar to those worn by law enforcement officers tried to kidnap a man and rob a taxi driver in the Alborada citadel and the road to the coast, respectively.

Given the situation, the Government of Guayas began on Wednesday, January 25, an inspection of several of these businesses within the framework of a census of establishments that sell uniforms for the National Police, Armed Forces, among other institutions.

Antisocials deceive with police suits in false controls to commit robberies and kidnappings: this indicates the COIP on the procedures

“We have started throughout the province, with the 35 commissioners not only from Guayaquil, but from the entire province. The chief of Zone 5 and Zone 8 of the Police are working in coordination. That is why the presence of the municipalities is also important. They also have police stations and, logically, they also have to do with the use of land,” said Governor Lorenzo Calvas.

Regarding the time that the census would take, the official mentioned that he hopes it will be “as soon as possible.” The initiative involves holding meetings with the owners of these premises who have been notified of the matter since this week.

But the problem regarding the control of these businesses is not only limited to Guayas and the places that sell this type of garment, since there are places that manufacture this clothing in other jurisdictions such as Manabí, for example.

“We are also going to coordinate with the other provinces, because we have to unite in this historic moment that we are experiencing,” said the representative of the Executive.

Since 2006, the Association of merchants and manufacturers of military and police articles (Accamp) was formed, which brings together 50 members nationwide. And each one can have more than one establishment.

Mónica Chauca, president of the union, said she agreed that this type of business enters into a regularization process, since she recognized that there are many irregulars who could incur in the “illegal” sale of clothing.

“There are places that are with everything that corresponds to the law and it cannot be that people sell outside as if it were bread or as a product of that type (…) what control can there be in this regard if all that is sold outside local too”, said the leader.

And he added that since 2015 said Association has worked with some government bodies with a view to regularization, which even set up technical working groups. The request at that time, according to Chauca, was to obtain special authorization, but this did not materialize.

“There is nothing that the law prohibits from selling, however, what we wanted was to regularize ourselves, work together to have discretion in the sale of all this and be allies, but it could not happen,” said the leader .

Recent criminal acts in which police suits were used

The most recent occurred on the afternoon of Saturday, January 21, around 5:00 p.m., in the tenth stage of the Alborada citadel, north of the city.

An SUV was pulled over by an alleged police officer, and the fake officer pretended to check the front of the car and proceeded to the driver’s door.

When it opened, a car appeared on the scene, closing the front of the SUV.

Antisocials got out of the car and, intimidating the driver of the SUV and his companion, tried to kidnap them. But the criminal action was frustrated by the intervention of police officers who arrived at the site in a patrol car.

In that intervention there was an apprehended a few blocks ahead of where the kidnapping attempt took place.

During the first week of January, the case of an antisocial who was part of a criminal gang and wearing a uniform similar to that of the police, collaborated in robberies on the road to the coast.

The individual stopped the potential victims by simulating a routine control and that was used by the rest of the gang to rob people.

The man was apprehended in the early hours of Wednesday, January 4, after the robbery of an informal taxi driver in that sector. According to police information, the victim was leaving a race when she was intercepted by antisocials who were on board a car.

The alleged policeman was on a motorcycle and is the one who would have stopped the driver’s walk. For this reason he was arrested and in his possession the motorcycle and a firearm were found, while the rest of the gang managed to flee. (YO)
