The US military killed one of the leaders of the group “Islamic state” as a result of a special operation (terrorist organization, banned in Russia) Bilala al-Sudani in northern Somalia. According to TASS, this was announced by a high-ranking representative of the Washington administration.
According to him, al-Sudani was destroyed along with ten accomplices. The official stressed that the conduct of the special operation was approved earlier this week by US President Joe Biden. The ringleader was eliminated within the last 24 hours.
Representatives of the executive branch of the United States refused to discuss the details of the operation. They only noted that as a result of its implementation, there were no casualties among American military personnel and civilians.
According to US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, al-Sudani “was responsible for facilitating the growing presence of ISIS in Africa and for funding the group’s operations around the world, including in Afghanistan.”
“We are grateful to our distinguished military personnel, as well as our intelligence community and other interagency partners, for their support of this successful counterterrorism operation,” the Pentagon chief said in a statement.
