As the Ecuadorian Navy had warned, the floodwaters of recent days have intensified the waves in some coastal areas of the country.

For example, in San Jacinto, the force with which the waves broke caused the water to enter the boardwalk and several streets, said Andrea Quijije, secretary of the Sucre cantonal Emergency Operations Committee (COE).
Said instance has been declared on maximum alert, so it will remain activated in the event of any event that is generated by the situation.

Mariano Santana Barberán, a 70-year-old retiree who lives in San Jacinto, mentioned that the last water leak revealed the weakness of the breakwater.
“It is necessary that the boardwalk be reinforced, because nature is unpredictable and there are many houses and businesses on the boardwalk that may suffer the consequences of the strong water that could occur this winter season, despite the fact that all of us who live are exposed to these and other natural circumstances,” the man said.
At 8:00 p.m. this Wednesday, January 25, César Cedeño Ganchozo, 56, all he could do was watch how the sea affected the boardwalk with stones, sand, and sticks.
He lives in the San Jacinto resort, in Charapotó, and assured that the force of the ocean is gradually undermining the road that connects this site with San Jacinto, San Alejo and San Clemente.

Together with other inhabitants of the sector who have their businesses, he asked for the construction of a retaining wall with large stones for the entire area. “This always happens in every swell,” she added.
During the morning of this Thursday, two buses with tourists arrived and they had to go to another spa because they had no way to bathe due to the strong waves, the resident mentioned.
Owners of commercial premises and hotels also feel harmed by the situation.
José Ostaíza, owner of a restaurant, said that these days he has not had many sales, so he estimated that his loss in the last three days exceeded $300.

Municipal machinery works in the place removing all kinds of material dragged by the sea, in addition breakwater stones are placed in the most critical places.
