The National Service for Comprehensive Attention to Adults Deprived of Liberty and Adolescent Offenders (SNAI) reported that a new incident is being investigated on the morning of Monday 8 inside the Litoral Penitentiary. The result was a deceased inmate.

According to the body in charge of the prison system, in the morning several shots from a firearm were reported inside the prison, for which the entry of SNAI personnel was ordered in coordination with the National Police to regain calm in the prison. zone of disturbance.

In the afternoon, prison security agents learned through the inmates about an inmate who was wounded by a bullet impact. After that, the affected person was taken to the polyclinic and then due to the severity of the injury to a health home, where he died, the SNAI detailed, this Tuesday morning.

For now, the Prosecutor’s Office and the Police are continuing the investigations to clarify the circumstances of the death of the inmate and those responsible for the fact.

At the Guayas Center for the Deprivation of Liberty No. 1, better known as the Litoral Penitentiary, on September 28 the largest massacre in the history of the prison system took place. There were 119 prisoners killed.
