Ecuadorian government and productive sector sign agreement to promote sustainability and fight against the effects of climate change

With the aim of promoting the transition towards more sustainable forms of production and consumption, as well as recognizing the efforts of the productive and service sectors in the fight against the negative effects of climate change, the Ministry of the Environment, Water and Ecological Transition (Maate ) and the Chamber of Industries and Production (CIP) signed an inter-institutional cooperation agreement that will strengthen ties between the public and private sectors. The event was chaired by Minister Gustavo Manrique and by María Paz Jervis Pastor, Executive President of the CIP.

The agreement seeks to promote climate management from the productive sector, capacity building and recognize the CIP as a new strategic partner of the Zero Carbon Ecuador Program (PECC), with the aim of encouraging more private companies to adhere to this program, showing thus its commitment to achieve true sustainable development.

During the event, Minister Manrique congratulated the CIP for its environmental commitment, and noted that “it is necessary to highlight the need to build a green and productive country, that is, one that can not only combat climate change, but also grow economically.” . This agreement will strengthen the ties between the public and private sectors”.

For her part, María Paz Jervis highlighted: “To achieve sustainability goals, it is essential to approach the public sector, where the open door policy is a precedent. These spaces and agreements will undoubtedly allow us to build the Ecuador that we all need”.

The CIP has been part of the PECC business ecosystem since July 12, 2022. This chamber brings together more than 300 companies and industries from 62 productive sectors, such as food and beverages, metal-mechanics, textiles, plastics, industrial, automotive, among others. (YO)
