Rick and Morty writer Justin Roiland, who also voiced its main characters Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith, will not be working on the new season of the show, as Adult Swim has terminated its partnership with him due to allegations of domestic violence. This is reported by TASS with reference to the message of the channel in the social network.

“Adult Swim has ended its partnership with Justin Roiland. Rick and Morty will continue to come out. A talented and passionate team is hard at work on the seventh season, ”the message says.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Roiland “will always be credited as one of the writers” of the project, but Dan Harmon will remain its sole executive producer and another actor will voice the main characters.

Roiland is charged with two criminal offenses, one of bodily harm and the other of false imprisonment by threat, violence and fraud. The incident reportedly took place on January 19, 2020, in relation to a girl who was dating Roiland at the time. Roiland was reportedly detained after the incident, but was later released on $50,000 bail. Since then, several court hearings have taken place in the case. Roiland pleaded not guilty and, being taken into custody in May 2020, was released on $50,000 bail in August of the same year.

Since then, more than a dozen hearings have taken place. Roiland’s lawyer is convinced of his client’s innocence and expects the case to be closed.
