The first full moon of the year is not long in coming. Astronomy fans will be able to see the satellite shining at its maximum point on the afternoon of this January 6.
The Wolf Moon, as the phenomenon of the full moon in January is known, will show its illuminated face at around 18:08 in Ecuador, Peru, Colombia and parts of the United States.
“The Moon will appear full for about three days around this time, from Thursday night to Sunday morning,” NASA details in a publication.
As it approaches its apogee, the furthest point in its orbit from Earth, the Moon will be smaller than normal.

The first full moon of the year is called the “wolf moon” by the Maine Farmer’s Almanac, which has given Indian names for full moons since the 1930s.
“According to this almanac, the Algonquian tribes of what is now the northern and eastern United States named the January full moon ‘the wolf moon’ after the packs of wolves that howled hungrily outside villages in the middle of the cold and deep winter snow ”, describes NASA.
