After taking a tour in the Montecristi hill, Manabí, on the morning of this Monday, November 8, Defense Minister Luis Hernández, He returned to Quito to report that the Montecristi radar is disabled and it is not known for how long or the cost of its repair.

Hernández explained that only the technicians will be able to determine the extent of the damage, the costs and the repair time, that the radar antenna is intact, then there are the electrical parts and electronic cards, and then there is the base system where the explosion.

When asked about whether those responsible could be within the same military institution, Hernández pointed out that it is not ruled out and the Prosecutor’s office He has already cited the eight people who were in charge of security on the radar. “We are not going to set aside any type of investigation that leads us to discover what really happened (…) Nothing is ruled out in the investigation,” he added.

The minister added that the Policeman It analyzes the materials found in the area in its laboratories, because in a tour carried out on Sunday they did not find dynamite, delta arrow, or electric capsule. “That is why we are waiting for the report of a part of the material that was destroyed, that will undergo a laboratory examination and we will have the results in 48 hours,” he said.

The Air Force will present a report on the explosion, the Defense Ministry will also do an “independent” investigation to determine exactly what happened. In charge of security were personnel from the Air Force, mostly, and also from the Navy.

“The country lives the harassment of drug trafficking, is a very serious threat to the country and the State, it is important that the Government, FF. AA. and the population be together with the State, we with the Government are not reacting but taking action ”, added Hernández.

The minister offered to improve the security system, explaining that below the radar is the command post: the cameras and technical personnel, security personnel, and 500 or 600 meters the personnel who made the exterior fence.
